Yarn Wrapped Bottles
Sick of those plain vases, spice them up with a little colour and decoration, making them great accent pieces! Don't have a vase? Use a vintage milk bottle or recycled jam jar, try and stay away from round jars as they tend to be very tricky to cover!
These really are quite easy to make although they are time consuming! Taking approximately half hour to forty-five minutes depending on the size of the bottle!
Here's what you will need:
Yarn (Colours of your choice, however many colours you choose)
Bottle
Scissors
Double Sided Tape
Here's how to do it:
Apply double sided tape evenly over any curved portions of the bottle that you want to cover with yarn. The yarn doesn't tend to stay on curved areas quite as good so covering it with tape will help and hold the yarn in place, making it much neater and tight looking!
Starting with the lip or base of the bottle, attach the end of your yarn to the bottle with a small piece of double sided tape slightly below (if starting from the lip) or above (if starting from the base) where you want the yarn coil to begin.
Begin wrapping the yarn around the bottle, wrapping over the loose end and making tight, even wraps that follow the profile of the bottle.
When you are about 1/2 inch from where you want to stop wrapping, apply a small piece of double sided tape to your intended stopping point. Wrap to the end and trim the yarn. Smooth the loose end down onto the tape to hide it. You might have to hot glue it to get it to stay in place. I know I had to when I first made one of these!
You can add a bow if you like with other yarn or with ribbon. If you did a few colour patterns you most likely won't have to use the bow.
I did 3 black and white bottles for my Mom. They all had different patterns with different types of yarn and different lengths etc. Be creative! Gift them or keep them for yourself!
